Our PurposeThe FBCA was formed in 1924, supporting the interests of Burial and Cremation Authorities, whether Local Authority or Private Sector and has almost 90% of UK crematoria in membership. Representing the interests of its members at Government, working closely with the Ministry of Justice, Defra and the Scottish Government. It has vast experience in offering its members technical advice, provides a range of training opportunities and carry’s out an inspection process to ensure compliance with national burial and cremation codes of practice.
The Online Learning Academy has been developed to provide accessible learning resources, helping member authorities and their colleagues achieve the standards laid out within Crematorium Compliance Scheme, Code of Cremation Practice and PG5/2. Our mission is to support members in ensuring operational standards and procedures are established, maintained and improved, to deliver consistently high standards of service to the bereaved.
Enrolment is open to all member authority colleagues working within the Crematorium or Cemetery, irrespective of their role.

Recertification Training
An experienced FBCA mentor carrying out on site training can help cremator technicians stay updated on best practices, new regulations, and advancements in cremation technology. These sessions cover topics including equipment maintenance, health and safety standards, environmental compliance, and ethical considerations. Upon completion, candidates receive a certificate of recertification displaying personal and organisational commitment to ongoing professional development.
